Giving birth soon? Don't forget these essentials!

Getting ready to give birth is already a hectic affair, why not make things easier for the future you in labour by packing these essentials ahead of time in a Hospital Bag!

Let's pack our hospital bag in advance

What is a Hospital Bag?

A hospital bag is a pre prepared bag containing the essentials you will need while giving birth. Once labour starts, there’s no stopping it! So it’s best to be prepared in advance. If this is your first time giving birth, fear not! We have a handy checklist for you to use:

  • Medical Records, Govt ID and insurance records: To show this during booking in or checking out
  • Birth Plan: Which is a list of your birth preferences
  • Regular medicines: Pressure medicines, Supplements, anything- mummy’s health comes first!
  • Water: You’ll be losing a lot of fluids during labour… Replenish yourself!
  • Phone and charger (Perhaps with some new games and movies downloaded?)
  • Socks and slippers: To walk in and warm your poor swollen feet.
  • Your favourite snacks: Delivery is hangry business!
  • Lip Balm: The hospital air is dry and you’re losing fluids. Your lips are sensitive and can chap so easily
  • Heating pads: To soothe the cramps
  • Old Nightgown: This will likely get ruined
  • Comfy clothes for you (and the baby!) to leave the hospital in
  • Diapers/Nappies
  • Maternal pads- Some women bleed for a while after birth, be ready for this!
  • Towels and warm robes
  • Maternity bras and fresh underwear

Be prepared in advance and let your close ones know where you are leaving the bag so they can collect it in an emergency. Labour can start any time, whether you’re out to get a quick bite or already in the hospital for other reasons.
